About Us
April 25, 2004
Dear fellow concerned citizen,
One afternoon I was kicking around the idea of creating a new, web-based political
party with a few friends. Some of us were Republicans, some were Democrats
and others were just disgusted with the whole process. We also realized
that among ourselves and our other friends each of us might be considered conservative,
liberal, moderate, independent, “green” or otherwise on any given
issue.
About the only thing we knew we had in common was that we all cared about
the future of our country, and our belief that many of the choices made by
our government in recent years had consequences worse than the original problem. Further,
we were all tired of having our choices on each issue limited by the vote we
cast in the last election. The more we talked the more we realized that
having another choice on election day wouldn’t really give us any more
say on each issue. What we really wanted was a way to communicate our
opinions on the issues facing our government, and then hold our elected representatives,
from whichever party, more accountable for their choices. In other words, we
wanted issues-based politics not party-based politics!
We decided that it would be great if we could use the internet to:
- Decide on the issues most important to us,
- Learn both the facts and all of the opinions on the issues,
- Discuss our opinions with each other,
- Come to some sort of consensus, including minority views, and
- Get that consensus to our congressmen, senators and even the President!
So a few days later I, a CPA “sole-practitioner,” met with one
of the other members of our group, a “webmaster” for one of the
larger companies in town, and we decide to form a partnership to explore the
possibility of creating a website to accomplish these goals. We further
agreed that the website had to be:
- Independent of any political party or special interest group,
- Subscribed to by individuals registered, or at least eligible, to vote,
- Supported by the members, not muddled with a lot advertising, and still
be affordable,
- Focused on the main issues, or legislation, currently in front of our government,
- Populated with objective information as well as links to all points of
view,
- Allow for discussion among the participants, and
- Finally, but most important, able to communicate our opinions in a timely,
thoughtful and concise way to our elected representatives!
And so, after several weeks of thought, planning, and programming – X-voter
was born! It definitely isn’t perfect, but it’s a real good
start. What will make it closer to perfect, is participation by people
like you. As you will see when you browse through X-voter, its future
will be determined by its members. And we believe the more members X-voter
has the more interesting its future will be, and the more it will help determine
the future of our country – and for the better!
Therefore, if you are a busy person who wants to participate more effectively
in the best governmental system yet devised by man, and you are interested
primarily in the issues, not the politics, then we hope you will become a member
of X-voter, and urge your friends to do the same because - Democracy
does work!
Sincerely,
Ray Darnell
